  • JR Mizuki Station

    JR Mizuki Station

    This station is located where the outer moat used to be.
    Close to the station, there is a public square in which the ruins of Mizuki fortress and clay walls divided by train tracks are introduced. At the ticket gate, you can also see the explanation of the excavation of the site. And at the west side of the station there are ruins of the West Gate of Mizuki fortress where foreign delegates used to pass through.

    ​To go to the Dazaifu area, you can take the community bus “Mahoroba” at Tokubetsu Shiseki Mizuki Ato Nishi-mon Mae Bus stop or you can take a train from Nishitetsu Shimoori Station.

  • JR Tofurou-minami Station

    JR Tofurou-minami Station

    Around this area is the west end of the ancient city of Dazaifu Jobo.
    And from here it is recommended to take taxi. (Taxies do not wait there so you have to call.)

  • JR Futsukaichi Station

    JR Futsukaichi Station

    From here to Dazaifu, you can take Nishitetsu bus or taxi. (It takes about 30 minutes by bus to Nishitetsu Dazaifu Station and it costs 410 yen one way.)

Nishitetsu Train

This is the most popular public transportation for Dazaifu sightseeing.

The tourist train “Tabito” runs from Fukuoka Tenjin Station to Dazaifu Station as well.

  • Nishitetsu Dazaifu Station

    Nishitetsu Dazaifu Station

    From here, you can take bus, taxi and rental bicycle.
    Inside the station there is Dazaifu City Tourism Information, and there are Japan Heritage “Western Capital” pamphlets.

    ​There are Dazaifu Tenmangu and Kyushu National Museum close by. For going to the ruins of Ono-jo fortress, taking a taxi is convenient.

  • Nishitetsu Gojo Station

    Nishitetsu Gojo Station

    From here you can take a bus or a taxi.

    ​Around this area is the east end of the ancient city Dazaifu Jobo. This area flourished as a commerce and industry town after the 13th century.
    This is the closest station to Kazeon-ji Temple Kaidan-in.

  • Nishitetsu Tofurou-mae Station

    Nishitetsu Tofurou-mae Station

    At the rotary at the west exit of the station, there is a bus stop for the community bus “Mahoroba”. This is the transport hub for the Mahoroba bus line.
    Besides this bus stop, there is the Nishitetsu No.400 bus stop at the east exit of the station under a viaduct. If you use this bus, you can go to JR Hakata Station.

    ​ This area is at the west end of the ancient city of Dazaifu Jobo. The “Excavated site of Oka dan-in” is close by.

  • Nishitetsu Futsukaichi Station

    Nishitetsu Futsukaichi Station

    This is the main station in which limited express and express trains stop. (You can take all Nishitetsu trains only with a train ticket. You don’t need to buy a limited express ticket as well.)
    To go to Dazaifu you have to change your train here unless you are already on the train for Dazaifu.

    ​Around here, there are the “Ruins of Hannya-ji Temple”, the “Ruins of Kyakukan” where foreign delegates stayed and the “Ruins of South Hall” where Sugawara no Michizane stayed.

Mahoroba Bus

It’s a community bus that takes you to sightseeing spots, historic sights and the station within the city. It has a 100 yen flat rate.
Easy access for older and disabled persons.

   (Please pay when you get off the bus.)

   (Touch the card reader when you get on and get off)
  ・Nishitetsu “Grand pass 65” is not available

〇 Transfer
  ・Mizuki fortress ruins and Chikuzen Kokubun-ji Temple direction and Dazaifu Government Office, Kanzeon-ji Temple, Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine and Uchiyama direction are different bus lines.
   So you have to transfer at “Nishitetsu Tofurou mae eki”.
  ・Making the transfer immediately after you arrive at “Nishitetsu Tofurou mae eki” won’t cost you.
   1.Pay 100 yen when you get off the bus first and ask for a transfer ticket from the driver.
   2.In the next bus you take, don’t use an IC card and give the transfer ticket to the driver when you get off the bus.
  ・When you make the transfer at “Dazaifu City Office mae” to Takao follow the same pattern.

    It’s in front of the ruins of Dazaifu Government Office.
    Mahoroba bus and Dazaifu liner bus “Tabito” stop here.

    ​Dazaifu Exhibition Hall is close by.
    If you go south from here, there are “Suzaku-mon Gate foundation stones”, the “Ruins of South Hall (Enoki-sha)” and the “Ruins of Kyakukan (Guest House)”.

  • Nishitetsu Tofurou-Mae Station

    Nishitetsu Tofurou-Mae Station

    This is a transport hub of Mahoroba bus.
     ・To go to the ruins of the Dazaifu Government Office and Dazaifu Tenmangu,
    Take the No.5 Bus “through Kitadani” “To Uchiyama (Kamado-Jinjya)”
     ・To go to Fureai Museum, the ruins of Chikuzen Kokubun-ji Temple and Mizuki fortress East Gate ruins, take No.3 bus “through Mizuki” or No.4 bus “through Kokubun”.
      (※Except to go to Mizuki fortress East Gate, taking No.4 bus is faster on the way there.)
     ・To go to the ruins of Mizuki fortress West Gate,
    Take No.1 bus "through Ozano” or No.2 bus “through Yoshimatsu”.
      (※No.2 “through Yoshimatsu” takes you there faster on the way)

    “The excavated site of Oka dan-in” is close by.
  • Chikuzen Kokubun-ji

    Chikuzen Kokubun-ji

    It’s in front of the ruins of Chikuzen Kokubun-ji Temple.
     ・From here to Nishitetsu Tofurou-Mae Station, it takes about seven minutes by No. 3 bus “through Mizuki” and about 29 minutes by No. 4 bus “through Kokubun”.

    ​“Fureai Museum” and the “Ruins of Kokubun Tile Kiln” are close by.

  • Dazaifu Fureai Museum

    Dazaifu Fureai Museum

    It’s in front of the entrance of Fureai Museum.
     ・From here to Nishitetsu Tofurou-Mae Station, it takes about 9 minutes by No. 3 bus “through Mizuki” and about 28 minutes by No. 4 bus “through Kokubun”.

    ​There are the “ruins of Kokubun Tile Kiln”, the “Ruins of Chikuzen Kokubun-ji Temple” and the “Excavated site of Mikasa dan-in” close by. It takes about 15 to 20 minutes on foot to go to the “Ruins of Dazaifu Government Office” and the “Ruins of Mizuki fortress East Gate”.

    It’s in front of the ruins of Chikuzen Kokubun-ji Temple (still undeveloped)
     ・From here to Nishitetsu Tofurou-Mae Station, it takes about 17 minutes by No.3 bus “through Mizuki” and about 19 minutes by No.4 bus “through Kokubun”.

    In front of Kokubun Community Center, there is a foundation stone of the ruins of Kokubun-ji Temple. Around here, there are the “ruins of Chikuzen Kokubun-ji Temple”, the “Excavation site of Mokkan related to family registration” and “Jin no o Kofun (from the sixth century. It is a designated historical site of Dazaifu)”

    It’s close to the ruins of Mizuki fortress East Gate.
     ・From here to Nishitetsu Tofurou-Mae Station, it takes about 19 minutes by No. 3 bus “through Mizuki” and about 16 minutes by No. 4 bus “through Kokubun”.

    ​There are many interesting things to see about Mizuki fortress. You can learn more about Mizuki fortress at “Mizuki fortress Museum” opened in 2017.

    Special historical site of ruins of Mizuki fortress West Gate Mae

    It’s close to the ruins of Mizuki fortress West Gate.
     ・From here to Nishitetsu Tofurou-Mae Station, it takes about 12 minutes by No.1 bus “Through Osano” and about 23 minutes by No.2 bus “Through Yoshimatsu”.

    ​JR Mizuki Station is five minutes by foot from here.
